Chef in the Classroom

Chef in the Classroom is a 2 hour nutrition lesson designed to educate students in grades 4-6 about whole foods by learning about the difference between whole foods and processed foods. During the class students prepare a whole foods chili from scratch. In addition to the classroom lesson taught by two CHANGE educators, teachers receive a packet of supplemental activities to reinforce the 2 children cookingconcepts taught in the class.

Students learn how to read a food label, how to categorize foods as whole foods or processed foods, have a basic understanding of common food additives, how to decipher packaging nutrient claims, and how to follow directions in a recipe.

Read about CHANGE in the Schools to find out how to bring Chef in the Classroom to your school.
