Food $ense CHANGE
EFNEP

4-H Youth Return to King County Extension

What are the benefits of CHANGE?

CHANGE brings:

Nutrition curriculum

  • Trained Food $ense educators to teach a series of 10 hour-long garden and cooking enhanced nutrition classes to students in grades K-5. Students have the opportunity to grow, harvest and prepare foods while learning about good nutrition.
  • A nutrition curriculum that aligns to the EALRS in math, science, reading and health, emphasizing experiential opportunities to meet the learning styles of diverse populations.
  • Additional programs such as Harvest of the Season and Chef in the Classroom instead of, or in addition to, the 10 CHANGE lessons.

Integrated nutrition programming

  • A support system and resource for teachers for incorporating nutrition education into their classroom work.
  • Participation in family nights and other family or adult outreach activities.
  • Nutrition education for teachers and school staff.

Gardening support

  • Assistance with the creation and maintenance of a school garden, designed for each school’s needs, to be used as an outdoor classroom.
  • Indoor gardening opportunities.
