Becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer

Are you interested in learning more about the science of horticulture and sustainable gardening?

Are you willing to share your knowledge with others to help them learn more about environmentally friendly gardening?

If your answers are "yes", why not join the over 600 King County residents who serve as Master Gardener volunteers?

A new class of Master Gardeners is trained each year. Applications for the class of 2009, which will be held on Tuesday, will be available here for downloading on August 1, 2008.The 12-week training will begin in early January of 2009. You may also send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to

2008 Master Gardener Application * 200 Mill Avenue S, Suite 100 * Renton 98057

and an application will be mailed to you as soon as they are printed.

Applicants to the program commit to 90 volunteer hours during their first two years in the program, with a minimum of 45 of those hours earned in the first year.

Quotes from the class of 2007:

"It exceeded my expectations. I didn't anticipate the happy, friendly atmosphere."

"Wow! All the instructors were phenomenal."

"The overall approach I am now taking to my gardening has changed with respect to water conservation, chemical use responsibility, minimizing pesticide application, and educating others..."
