Volunteer to help out with the 2009 Harvest Celebration Farm Tour

Looking for a way to get help support local farms, get involved in local agriculture, or be more directly connected with our local food system? Volunteer at the 11th Annual Harvest Celebration Farm tour and you will be doing all of the above.

Map Distributors: In the 10 days before the event, deliver stacks of Farm Tour Guides to locations across King County -- libraries, community centers, schools, farmers' markets, farm stands, grocery stores, etc. The farm tour guide will be printed on September 16th and will need to be delivered as soon as possible after that.

Qualifications: Have your own transportation, be able to lift and carry 15 lb. bundles of tour guides, be able to read maps or follow directions to get to various locations.

Greeters: On the day of the Farm Tour (Saturday, September 26, 2009), greeters will welcome visitors to farms, answer general questions, and distribute, stamp, and collect surveys. Greeter shifts range from 3.5 to 7 hours long on the day of the event, depending on your availability. Farms are located in the Woodinville/ Redmond area, Snoqualmie Valley (Fall City, Carnation and Duvall), Auburn/ Enumclaw area, and Vashon Island. Sign-up with a friend or family member and spend the day on the farm together. Or volunteer for half of the day and then check out other nearby farms on the tour.

Qualifications: Reliable, punctual, and an enjoyment of interactions with both children and adults. You will be asking visitors to make donations and fill out survey forms.

To volunteer, contact Karen Luetjen, 206-205-3187.
