Alternative Ways to Get to the Farms on the Tour

Because it is important to reduce the carbon impact of the Farm Tour, we have come up with some alternatives to driving individually. Here are several options:

Bike the Tour!  September provides beautiful scenery and bicycling can add exercise and enjoyment to your Farm Tour experience.  Bill Thorness, author of the Mountaineers Guidebook, Biking Puget Sound, has developed bike routes for visiting farms in each area of the county and will be leading a Tour d’Tilth bike tour on the day of the event.  Click here for information on bike tours and self-guided biking directions.

Ride in a Seattle Parks and Recreation Van!  Take the whole family to the farms! Seattle Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a bus to take residents out to the farms on the Harvest Celebration Farm Tour.  The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 4:00 p.m. and picks up at two community centers:

  • Event #34235:  Pickup sites at Jefferson Community Center in Beacon Hill and Northgate Community Center in North Seattle heading to Eastbound Farms: River Valley Cheese, Fall City Farms, and Full Circle Farm. Cost is $6.00 for youth 18 and younger, $12.00 for adults.

For details and to register, call Angela at 206-233-7255 and reference the event number.

Carpool!  Of course, you can always call up a friend and set up a good old-fashioned carpool—or find carpool partners through King County’s RideshareOnline.com Event Match website: www.rideshareonline.com. Registration is easy:

  1. Register in the “Ridematch to Regional Events” section.
  2. Once you’re registered and have received your confirmation number via email, you can log on and look for the Harvest Celebration Farm Tour in the Regional Events listing.
  3. Select the Farm Tour, and you will receive contact information for others who would also like to attend the event. Then you can work together to decide which farms you’d like to visit, who will drive, and other arrangements.
  • Note:  When selecting the farm tour, choose the Carnation tour if you’d like to visit the East Loop or choose the Enumclaw tour if you’d rather go to South King County.

Take a Bus!  You may be able to take a bus to some of the farms on the tour.  Check King County transit listings at: http://transit.metrokc.gov/

Bring a group on the tour!  If you have access to a van or a bus, you may want to bring a group on the tour.  Youth, senior citizens, faith groups, community groups, or just a bunch of your friends can make up a fun crew to spend the day out in the King County countryside.  You can download a fact sheet of group tour guidance and reminders at our website below.

Note:  You can always rent vans from various car rental companies, or, if you’re a Zipcar member, you can sign up to use one of theirs for the day!
