Welcome to the Extension Watershed Stewardship Program!
As Extension Watershed Stewards, we are university-trained volunteers dedicated to protecting and restoring King County’s unique natural resources through education and public awareness. We love sharing our enthusiasm with others who want to know more about this beautiful place and get involved in conservation, and we hope that includes you.
Our university-based program helps communities become engaged in valuing and protecting our environment through education and research. Since our beginnings in 1990 Washington State University Extension in King County has supported us and guided our work.
Extension Watershed Stewards come from all walks of life and bring a rich cross-section of backgrounds, experience, service and talents. Every volunteer receives over 70 hours of expert training from top instructors in such subjects as forest ecology, native and invasive species, site restoration, and low impact development. In return for this unique educational opportunity, all new Extension Watershed Stewards agree to "give back" a minimum of 60 volunteer hours by talking with students and the public, working with school groups, writing newsletters, leading restoration projects, and much more. It is fun and the enthusiasm is contagious!
Join us by downloading an application on the How to Become a Steward page, or contact Tara Zimmerman at 206-205-3203 to receive an application by mail.
