Youth Environmental Leadership Institute (YELI)
The WSU Extension departments of 4-H Youth Development and Forestry have partnered to create this institute as a way to foster environmental stewardship in the youth of our community.
Summer 2009 Project
In cooperation with Mountains to Sound Greenway and the King County Noxious Weed Control Program, WSU KC Extension is hosting an intensive restoration project in the Mid-Fork Snoqualmie region from June 29th, 2009 to July 29th, 2009. The program participants will be 16 and 17 year old at-risk students who are enrolled in Youth Source. It will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm for 5 weeks.
Students will gain knowledge of forest ecology, GPS use, mapping, proper removal and restoration techniques, plant identification and environmental career opportunities. This project will build leadership skills and give participants the opportunity to network with local experts.
